Even by Aug 1944, Soviet forces were already inside Poland and parts of Romania.

Germany was according to the Feb 4–11, 1945 Yalta Conference to be divided up among the allies into occupation zones and Berlin the city itself was again divided up into zones of control.Berlin itself was well within the soviet zone of a post ww2 divided germany.
