1. Today Microsoft has been ordered to stop selling some versions of Microsoft Word due to losing a federal court case against a small Canadian firm which accused them of violating some of it's patents. In 2010 they plan on selling a new version which does not contain the disputed XML technology.

2. Google has launched some new gadgets to make the iGoogle experience better. These include things like Chess, NPR stream, Social photo sharing, and more.

  • I have been a software developer most of my life and generally support open source software etc.. fairly anti-Microsoft...

    However XML is a standard technology everyone uses... if the courts actually decided that Microsoft cant use that in Word they are flat out wrong or stacked from the beginning. It would be like if you suddenly decided to patent the use of gas in your competetors new automobile series and then sued them for using gas in it.
