EDIT: Last night I had the privilege to not only see in concert, but meet, Amon Amarth. It waz an honor to hear that they enjoyed my rendition of this tune. You guyz rawk, man. Love ya.

My solo piano rendition of Amon Amarth's new song, War of the Gods. Damn, that's an f'n great tune!

Learned all by ear, so as for sheet music, I have none. None sheet music.

Excuse the fairly reserved playing, I was feeling a little drowsy and unenergetic as I recorded this... but I think it's plenty listeneable all the same. Check it out! Just make sure to turn up your volume.

One thing to note: I approached this song with a different idea in mind than what my mindset was for my Twilight of the Thunder God rendition; for this one, I wanted to adapt the song to the piano more; as a result, this cover is less bombastic and more introverted, catering more to the innate nature of the instrument. Keep that in mind as you view/evaluate my playing.

Oh, and thanks to ALUxoxo for, by announcing that she would record a cover of this song, giving my lethargic ass some incentive to record this cover, haha. Go check out her videos, they kick ass!

A bit about myself, in case you legitimately give a fuck: I'm a 15 year old dude who plays piano, guitar, drums, bass, tenor sax, french horn, and mandolin. Been playing piano for 7 years, the others for a few years. I mainly do classic rock (a la Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy) and melodic metal (symphonic, progressive [DREAM THEATER], melodeath, black, gothic, viking/folk) but I also dig playin jazz fusion, classical (particularly 19th and 20th century) and doodlin modal jazz from time to time.

  • Epic fucking cover good sir :D! Is there any way you could cover hades (Kalmah)?

  • this video alone is proof to all those metal haters out there that there is actual melody and depth to most of the songs, sometimes you just have to listen

  • Can you make a tutorial of this?

  • there is always an asshole (or 7) [orange you glad youtube doesn't censor text? what a nightmaer that would be]

I know there is a place for piano in metal music, most is considered goshit oops, gothic metal ( i really mispelled that, had to leave in:) which i like, esp theatre of tragedy (though now i don't recall they use keyb or not)

of course, not Amon Amarth, but, when the mood strikes

  • Awesome! Congratz! You´re very very good!!!
