Ritz 3847 "Miss You" Fox Trot

My first video of my 1912 Stroud Metrostyle-Themodist and "Miss You" played by Mabelle Cowan. This roll was manufactured under the Ritz roll label, which was a store brand made by the Atlas Piano Roll company in Newark, NJ. Atlas used many roll labels, but all rolls were made on the different brands from the same master roll. This video was made with my digital camera so it's not as good as I would like. Still, I hope that you enjoy!

Thanks :) This is one of my favorite rolls, it makes you want to dance. Atlas rolls are so happy and melodious. They also seemed to have a great editing policy. They were one of the few companies in my opinion that had perfected the "hot" fox trot of the mid 20's to early 30's. Another one of my favorite is the Atlas version of "Tain't No Sin". I'll spare myself the rest of the title for fear of Youtube's measly character allowance lol.

one of my friends collects Atlas rolls, especially those played by Miss Annabelle Taylor, who was a fantastic pianist! It's a shame that more research has not been done on this obscure company and their musicians. We are not even sure which ones are real people and which are pseudonymns. I guess it's time to stir the pot! Thanks for posting this roll.

Andrew, would you mind sending me his email? I am trying to compile an Atlas rollography, and so far have nearly 260 different titles. (This is still a small slice) but I think the info would be of some value to collectors. Considering, that the title stamps on these rolls are often so faded they're illegible.

Robert Perry is working on who is real and who isnt. So far we've established Cowan, Seibert, and Fecher as real and know a bit of new info about them.

Mabelle Cowan was very real, in fact it's her 124th birthday this week! (Born 8-Jan-1886). She was active in the New Jersey area as, at various times, a private music teacher, a music teacher in school, a radio broadcast pianist, and even had her own band, Mabelle Cowan's Orchestra, in the mid 1920s. She never married and died in July 1970. This is a superb example of her playing. How I wish more effort had been made to contact these people before they passed on.
