Today, we're introducing two new Vostro laptops for customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Small Business customers in North and South America will be able to order on May 1, and customers from Asia Pacific and Japan will be able to place orders on May 5. The new laptops include the 13.3" 1310, and the 15.4" 1510. The re-designed 1710 will be coming later in May... more on that when the time comes.
A common request from small business customers worldwide (like this idea from user ojisan on IdeaStorm) was for us to introduce a 13,3" Vostro notebook. The Vostro 1310 (pictured above) offers almost the same screen real estate as the larger Vostro 1400 notebook, but weighs almost 20% less. For the 1310, pricing starts at $749.
The 1510 (shown in the picture above) offers a large display in a form factor that's a bit thinner and lighter than the Vostro 1500. Like the 1310, it also features a slot-load optical drive. Pricing for it starts at $599.

Similar to the very first Vostro systems we launched in July last year, these systems do not come with trialware, they do, however, come with a 30-day return policy and can also be ordered with Dell's DataSafe online backup, the Network Assistant or our PC Tune-Up services. It's pretty clear that small business customers want notebooks with perfomance and reliability and they want this technology for an affordable price. With both of these laptops, we really aimed to balance those needs. We've also introduced more robust security features—like integrated fingerprint readers, cable locks and Trusted Platform Module 1.2 support to help prevent unauthorized network access.

David Ruth from the Vostro team covers both the 1310 and the 1510 Vostro laptops in more detail. You can also go to www.dell.com/newvostro for more information.

  • like the new 13' ...my main issues are size and weight so that seems like a worthwhile system to get

  • I have many account and the fact to login everyday is annoying and a waste of time. I believe that you just have to use the fingerprint reader and it's done. Considering i'm not really sure about that ..

  • do they sell half a thinkpad because thinkpads cost twice as much as a vostro. For thinkpad money buy a mac and windows or two vostros

  • fuk u. studio 1535 touch media keys and eject button are fuked up. i hope you go out of business!!!!

  • I always pronounced it as Vostro (Vaw-Stro)!!!!!!! i dont like how he says Vostro (Vo-Stro)

  • dell quality sucks, get a thinkpad

  • I agree with the previous posters that the new Vostros (both laptops and desktops) are vastly inferior compared to the older ones. Dell made the Vostro line from what used to be great, to horrible now.

  • The worst laptop I've seen so far - thin and wobbly plastic, everything flexing. Mine had a borked USB port and a bent base. Google "Dell DPC latency" and learn that they have serious design flaws as well, you can't even listen to music with them when the WLAN is on and Dell keeps on lying about that and tells you to turn off the WLAN. The fan is annoying too. Support totally screwed up as well. Not worth the money.

  • why is this guy calling the "screen real estate" 'viewing angle', which is something entirely different when talking about LCD screens?

  • Crap design.

4 USB ports at the front=cables out the side front in the way of mouse

No opening catch.Need both hands to open whilst holding base

    No mute control

Keyboard has / & \ on the right & is springy--you thump the keys & waste time re-typing

Finger reader is wrong for business users as they then forget login passwords-so central IT guys who need control access need to reset

Speaker grills are large but the hole is tiny=cheap & tinny sound

CD drive has no emergency pinhole to eject

  • hey man...wud you mind connecting the notebook with a 19" screen? i'm wondering if it can get through the 1440x900 resolution...

  • it makes logins easier and more secure. also its only 20 bucks more and its effing cool.
