The Senate rejected an amendment offered by Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) that would have stripped language from the stimulus bill that would force colleges and universities to throw religious clubs off campus if the schools receive federal funds
Jay Sekulow of the American Center for Law & Justice had this reaction.
"Well, not only is it disappointing, it's almost a throwback to litigation that we conducted in the 1980s that we won unanimously at the Supreme Court," he says. "And I feel like this particular legislation pokes the finger in the eye of people who take religious faith seriously.
Jay Sekulow (Amer. Ctr. for Law & Policy)"It's discriminatory in its application, unconstitutional as it's written, [and] unfortunately it's going to take four or five years for it to be litigated all the way through," Sekulow adds.
With passage of the bill with the restrictions in place, how might colleges and universities be affected? "We're going to look at filing an application for a stay of this provision, trying to get it declared unconstitutional through a restraining order," he shares.
Sekulow plans to file suit the day after President Obama signs the bill.
Jay does damage fighting for Christian rights.Liberty from Christ is not a right.Gov't cannot give rights for what Christ gave as a liberty. Christ persecution should not be protected by gov't. Neither should prayer or bible study be sanctioned by gov't.Christians are looking for protection for a Christian life minimizing true faith. We are called to suffer not to be pampered. There is no Christian Nation only a world wide body of Christ. There is no unique liberty of Christ in the USA

@patnais102 I don't really even understand what your point is? I think Christ will punish everything sin that was commited that was not forgiven. That includes the abortion, homosexual, stealing through excesive taxation, and thug tactics that the left have employed. Im not saying everyone else is perfect but never before has an american party championed satans values.

Did he just say "no teaching" of religious history? I am assuming he is not talking about academics. Otherwise you could count out quite abit, like history and philosophy, economics...etc.

Thank goodness. Don't people of faith already have tax-free places to pray already. Christians will back this up once they are not the majority anymore.

So as a Christian I must be isolated from fellowship with other christians while I live on a campus. I cannot freely practice my religion or exchange ideas or teachings with others and must find some place to rent off campus. Lovely. May christ punish these men. The Lord rebuke them.

And I don't think you understand. Religion means ALL religion, not just Christianity. So that means Muslim support groups would have to be removed as well, as well as any pagan groups. Once again, are you on drugs? School is for learning, not for organized prayer.

Ummmm, are you on drugs? Why would he condemn the acts of a man that is not only long since dead, but acts that can hardly be verified as actual occurrances?
