Norm Finkelstein: Professor With A Cause, But No Tenure

Norm lectures on the Arab/Israeli conflict. He speaks neither Arabic or Hebrew. In other words, he pretends to be an expert on issues he writes and speaks about, but is totally unable to communicate in the langauges of the confict he supposedly studies. It is no wonder that he cannot get tenure anywhere, because who would want to have such a liability on their hands. No scholarship, no expertice, and spends his time running around the country inflaming Jew hatred and passing on his distortion of history.

When I asked if he wanted to learn Hebrew or Arabic, he scoffed at the idea.

To make this even more disturbing, Norms lecture was made extra credit for classes; I was called rascist names for taping him and it was co-sponspored by several departments.

I saw Benny Morris expose him. Morris noted that Finkelstein uses his work for a lot of his work on the Middle East conflict but Morris noted that Finkelstein cherry picks facts to look at and and doesn't look at the whole picture.

And Finkelstein came off really poorly on a talk show about remembeing the Holocaust. He was with another guy who in the end made Finkelstein look pretty bad.

Finkelstein is basically an attack dog. He has no credibility because, with regard to the Middle East conflict, he is completely one-sided.

Knowing Hebrew, Arabic, or, for that matter, Arameic, is no prerequisite for speaking about issues of conflicts, justice, and the International Law, socaljss. Finkelstein is not an Orientalist, but a political sciences professor. He's not teaching comparative literature, nor, say, close reading of Urdu poetry. Also, Chomsky reads Hebrew, Said read Arabic, but they were no less villified because of or in spite of that.
