Jean Grey was born and raised in Annadale-on-Hudson. Her parents were John and Elaine Grey and she was one of two daughters (the other being Sara Grey). Jean Grey was a normal child until the death of her best friend Annie Richards. While playing with Jean Annie was hit by a car and as her friend lay dying in her arms, Jeans latent telepathic powers awoke. She felt Annie dying and slowly slipping away from her. This incident left Jean deeply depressed, so her parents decided to seek advice from Charles Xavier. With his help Charles suppressed Jeans growing telepathic powers and decided to focus on developing her budding telekinetic abilities.
