This is my first ever testing of Figure Skating. I had never seen a test except for the tests on-line, and I also was the first tester of the day. So I truly had to rely on what my coach had said and my consistency in practice. I felt good about my mental game, but couldn't believe the bobbles I was having on what I thought was fundamental for me. I notice that my nerves do not show on the video at all, but I did just handle each thing as it came. When they asked me to re-skate the FI Consecutive Edges, I talked it over with my coach and then re-skated that part of the test. I hope putting this out there for others to watch will help other adults learn more about what a passing test looks like and feels like.
Comments:
Forward Perimeter Stroking -- Continuous Flow, Strength, and Extension -- Somewhat step over on the end patterns, good power generation from the push under with the cross foot.
Basic Consecutive Edges -- Edge Quality -- One judge thought each of the lobes were too large, all said they were in control, I didn't do the push into the first back edge correctly, and I retested the forward inside edges for the slight touch of the toe on the second lobe.
Forward & Backward Crossovers -- Continuous flow and Strength. -- Continued work needed to eliminate the step over on the forward crossovers and glide that foot through, but the strength and flow were there. They also noticed I don't do the swing roll before changing from front to back crossovers.
Waltz Eight -- Edge Quality -- One judge commented on the scratchy 3 turns and a bit of 2 foot transition that comes from stepping out of my back inside edge after the 3 turn. another judge noticed the large step from back to front in the last transition of each circle, but I did get comments on good edge quality and nicely skated.
Forward 3 Pattern -- Edge Quality -- Comments here were scratchy 3 turns, even flow, good pattern, not afraid of 3's, nice rotation form on the turn into the next pattern.
I think I fooled them on not being afraid of 3 turns. I would rather a Mohawk any day over a 3 turn. I guess that proves that you can sell anything with a good smile and not give it away in your facial expressions.
Good job.. I take mine 3/30/12, but no forward 3 pattern, instead, forward spirals.. I guess the rule book changed.

@WaltzJumps good luck on yours. Yes this season the tests just changed. They moved the spirals down from Silver. I test Silver on March 1, 2012... but I have to do the edge spirals... Not a fan, but spirals are one of my favorite moves so I am not worried about that move.

nicely skated. it's tremendously hard to manage your nerves during any test, maybe the first time out in particular, and you made a smooth showing. I'll refer some of my students to check out your video for an example of the first moves test:) best of luck on the ice!
