Originally created to be used for the Balanced Day School system that is becoming widely used in Ontario, the functionality, versatility and design have made it a world wide sensation!

Some tips from the Balanced Day Lunch Kit Experts:
Litterless Lunch tips
• Buying tubs of yogurt/applesauce and portioning into containers cuts back on cost and packaging. Try Eco Containers to prevent leaks!
• Get packs of small washcloths/cloth napkins and reusable cutlery from the dollar store!
• Use reusable drink containers. Did you know that soon plastic disposable water bottles will be banned?
• Purchase large bags of snacks like crispers, crackers, goldfish, etc. instead of individually wrapped items.
• Choose a lunch bag for your child that is roomy enough to comfortably pack reusable containers. (Like the Balanced Day Lunch Kit)
• Just think about the amount of garbage coming from schools every day. Let's all do our part to cut back on waste, and teach our children a valuable lesson!!

  • how long does it keep food cold?

  • @EatLotsOfCurry I'm not sure but I emailed them and will update you as soon as I hear back :)

  • @EatLotsOfCurry

Small ice pack: 4 hours cold insulation

Large ice pack: 8-10 hours cold insulation

Tip: put bag and contents in the fridge for a while before taking it out for the day. Add the ice pack when you remove the bag from the fridge and are ready to go: this helps everything stay cool longer!

  • Not sure why you think it's too long to wait to eat. They eat earlier than a traditional lunch like I had when I was in school and then they get to eat again a couple of hours later. My youngest daughter isn't really all that hungry at the second break so she just has a snack. I never had time to eat at recess because we only had 15 minutes and I wanted to play...not eat! lol! So I only got one nutrition break as opposed to two. We love the balanced nutrition breaks and these bags!!

  • @crys8494 probably a nutrionist that doesnt eat at all, i just think its really sad, for a little kid or any child to be waiting that long i know if i wait that long ill be hungry and for the lunch that they give them it shouldnt even be called a lunch, i doubt it fills them up for the whole day

  • @jac11181 Yes...I am not sure which nutritionist thought that this was a good idea! Not to mention, I can't bring my daughter home for lunch, because the time that she has to eat isn't long enough....so....I can no longer make her home-made soups and other such yummy goodness that are packed with vegetables and nutrients, for fear of it getting knocked over in a busy classroom....it really sucks and I am not looking forward to September! Barely 4 and she goes for a whole day! My son will be 3

  • @crys8494 really? wow that is crazy, thats too long for a four year old to be waiting

  • @jac11181 2 nutrition breaks....no more "recess" Used to be recess in am, lunch, then another recess in pm....it actually sucks...means my 4 yr old has to start school at 8:45am and doesn't get to eat until 11:20am! Crazy!
