Thank you for this video. I hope Henri is still alive today as he can share so much about acceptance of our fragile humanity as he himself is a wounded healer! But his life itself is a manifesto for those whoa re suffering with themselves....Thanks
And to think a catholic priest was so influential in reaching evangelical Christians (who accounted for the majority of his readership). Henri preached against division especially among Christians. Not long ago, the church would have expected someone like Henri to convert non-catholics to the ONE TRUE FAITH (the church thought they were the only way). Henri was about inclusion--what we have in common is our faith in Jesus.
Nouwen said this in his book SABBATICAL JOURNEY p. 51"Today I personally believe that while Jesus Christ came to open the door to God's house, all human beings can go through that door whether they know about Jesus or not. Today I see it as my call to claim his or her own way to God." Wow either Jesus is right or Henri is right. Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one come to the Father but through Me." You want to stake your eternity on Henri Nouwen's word or Jesus?
It's great that you discovered Nouwen so early in your life. His influence is impossible to overestimate. His story is a good choice for your project. Keep reading his books. By the way, he preferred to be called by the Americanized pronunciation of his name, as in "Henry".
Thank you for this video. Just a minor correction. I believe Henri was born on January 24, 1932 not July 24.

I knew Henri...never met anyone who directed more people to Jesus than Henri. Never knew anyone with a stronger faith in Jesus.
