How many inches did that hali go?
abzde 1 year ago
I do not remember exactly, but roughly 45 inches. Once they get into t he 40 inch plus mark, they start putting on weigh pretty good. They start getting thick. I have caught several 40 plus pounders and my best being 47 lbs. and they are all thick!

where do you buy spear guns?
ethantup456 1 year ago
You can buy spearguns in plenty of places but ost are sold in the states that border the ocean. You must be from an inland state. Go to EBAY and look under spearguns. That's a good start!

Awesome fish man! I'm new to the Santa Cruz area and I'm hoping to do some halibut spearing in the near future. two questions: 1) How deep was the dive for this fish? and 2) from your experience is there any spots you would recommend closer to SC for good spearing? halibut? lingcod? thanks.

Santa Cruz can be a very low visabiliy dive spot, but when the vis is good, it is an excellent place to spear fish. While I ususally hunt for lingcod in Carmel Bay, diving off the Santa Cruz lighthouse in 30 feet or deeper in the kepy area is excellent. Lots of fish there. Halibut diving is very tough in Santa Cruz and many divers prefer to dive off Monterey where the vis for be as good as 20 feet over sand. I have hunted for halibut off Capitola in 40 feet of water and had luck.
