As you can tell, I'm struggling for topics.

Just to show how out of this I am, when did they change the uploading system on YouTube?!

  • Just a question, if the evidence is insufficient for belief, then how come some people believe?

  • Different perspectives. Some people may see different things than I do, or have less, different or more knowledge about the subject.

When I say it is insufficient, I mean purely on a what I personally see vs I personally know basis. It would be irrational for *me* to believe anything else. I am led to believe that this conclusion is the case, but you can never be sure because there is always something else out there to learn.

  • Or to put it another way, some people can see the truth and some people are blind.

"I am led to believe that this conclusion is the case"

You are led? Or do you lead yourself?

    "you can never be sure"

    So why risk it?

  • Doubtful. I am yet to be convinced that anyone can see the truth. We can all see parts of it and are blind to the rest.

To a degree we all lead ourselves, but we try as best as we can to use logic as a guide.

Anybody who thinks they can see 'the Truth' and are led purely by it are being dishonest to themselves.

We 'risk it' because that is the way the game is played. Some people cannot simply choose what they believe. They are more concerned with a search for truth than blind gambling.

  • "I am yet to be convinced that anyone can see the truth"

Not in totality, but more then others, which was my point.

"Some people cannot simply choose what they believe"

I would disagree, no one "knows" what created the universe, therefore we have to "choose" what to believe. Whether we choose to believe it was God or choose to believe it wasn't, both are choices.

  • What I mean is it isn't an arbitrary choice.

I don't get out of bed and say to myself "What shall I believe today?"

What I believe is based on my knowledge and where that points me. If the information at hand points to atheism I would be irrational to believe in god.

And choosing to believe something when I know the information at hand points to the opposite conclusion is not something I am capable of doing, I'm afraid.

Go and watch my Pascals Wager video. It should be interesting to you.

  • great video! some dude at school was trying to tell me i should go to church in case i was wrong so i wouldnt go to hell...its like wtf, you could be wrong just as easily and wind up going to hell because you werent a muslim or a mormon or w/e.

  • It just proves that religion as a whole isn't true simply because people say so. When you believe there is a God, you've already acquired a distinct belief that isn't justified over any other beliefs that might contradict it because it's not backed up by facts, only by what you want to believe. That's why there's atheism - taking the position of disbelief (but not saying there is no God). It's a basic logic principle that there's disbelief until a claim has been proven for that very reason.

  • Clutchology: Man - you had set up your argument so well, but then at the end gave an - eh - ok answer.

What you should have said is - What if the Christians are wrong and there is in fact some crazy Arachnid God who sends Christians to hell? Or what if there is a God who loves free thinking and sends atheists to heaven?

Then investing faith in Christianity is equally as risky as investing faith in atheism. This argument would have left the Christian without rebuttal.

  • @TheHonestTheist . no > you can know who create universe , just should r siteand read the holy Quran

  • if there was a god... you'd have thought natural disasters like typhoons and hurricanes etc would miss or go around churches and schools of innocent children etc..... but natural disasters dont really care who it kills ... they just happen

  • i would argue that the gods, or the karmic tribunal, if they exist, would HAVE to respect our intelligence. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  • If Christianity is right, on judgment day I will protest: "Lord, you did NOT give us enough evidence!" But then there's an equal chance that any of thousands of other religions are right--although they are all equally lacking in evidence (none). So it's a lottery no matter what. I will continue to withhold any belief in the supernatural, and will not organize my life around something I find illogical and lacking in evidence. Instead, I will focus on trying to live a good and fulfilling life.

  • @HugrMunr To true.

  • @dude12nothin You forgot to mention Barry Manilow. He's the reason I'm an atheist.

  • If god makes everything.. why did he make: atheist, sinners, murders, crazy people, retarded people, midget, nerds, dorks, english people, david hassleoff, bob dole, Asians that dont want to sleep with me, non-free prostitutes, Chris Crocker, glen beck, Hitler, buddha, Michael Jackson, Michael Vick, girls that dont put out, pedo-priest, Aids and did I mention bob dole wtf is up with that dude god? Would you really worship something that made those? I think not oh ya he made the devil what a f-up
