Lawrence of Arabia is a sweeping epic that still manages to be a character study of the entirely unique and compelling T.E. Lawrence.

Notwithstanding the writing of Robert Bolt and the performance by Peter O'Toole (was there ever a better break-out role?), David Lean's direction is what moves this movie into the realm of greatness. In the following scene we see Lean's economy with the camera in capturing and framing Lawrence (O'Toole) and Prince Feisal's (Alec Guiness) pivotal conversation that underlines the major themes of the film and sends Lawrence off to find Feisal's "miracle".

If you haven't seen it, go out and rent this movie!

  • Isnt it T.E Lawrence? Thomas Edward Lawrence? You put T.H.

  • Well spotted. And corrected. Thanks!

  • I like how Alec Guinness uses that same foreboding tone of voice that he used as Obi-wan. "In the ninth century, the Jedi Knights brought peace, order, and public lighting to Cordoba. But then came the dark days.. of the Empire."

  • I should read the "seven pillars of wisdom"

  • @Wolfen443 indeed, the revolutions gave me hope, but still i doubt that unity will come, we ignore important things, and give attention to stupid things

  • @Re9syr, I think it happened both ways. Precisely for taht reason he tried to get the Arab tribes t6o work together after they defeated the Turks, he knew that change was hard to accept in the Desert. So, the Arabs became Giants thanks to Black Gold under the Desert, but remained Little, Divided People in their Hearts.

  • has england betrayed lawrence, or did lawrence know what england wanted to do in the arab lands ?

  • obi wun!?

  • I've seen this film a few times and still don't understand some parts.

  • one of the greatest men in history....L-awrence

  • yep spaniards must be very excited for this line about cordoba

  • "But you know, Lieutenant, in the Arab city of Cordoba were two miles of public lighting in the streets when London was a village?"

    "Yes. You were great."

    "Nine centuries ago."

"Time to be great again, my lord."

I was completely sold by this film by the time this scene came. They're chemistry together is so good. I love King Faisal- he has this air about him like he knows everything, and you can't hide anything from him.

  • omg obi-wan kenobi was the king of iraq!

  • We are the miracle...just keep working
