Proponents of federal legislation to ban horse slaughter in the United States are gathering in Washington, D.C. on March 4th and 5th to lobby for the passage of the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act (HR 503/S311).

Calling the event "Americans Against Horse Slaughter Week," nearly 100 people from all parts of the country will press for passage of pending legislation that would place a federal ban on the transport and slaughter of horses for human consumption.

  • we need to make this world wide!

  • and what you don't carter20081985 is how to spell dumb**.... and we could all stop this its horrible and we are murdering these living breathing things from God. :/

  • If you can help horses and find them good homes good for you. But there's only so much you can do. As for the amount of space, people are part of the problem. There are simply too many people. True I would like to see more horses around, but you have to understand a lot of people don't see it that way. Horses are a means to an end to many and if you can't earn a profit they're not worth the care. Don't get me wrong, I love horses, but I lack the resources to help much. It's a matter of numbers.

  • What's the matter with you?? You just lost your job at a slautherhouse? As for the care of those animals, I am a vet and I dont charge anything to anyone who has rescued animals.. Here we have all the ressources to take care of them, there's not that much horses in this part of the country, and we surely have all the space needed for horses to be free and happy, I don't understand why in the world so many people criticize what I do. I'm starting now to really dislike the human race..more

  • Bullshit. 90,000 horses come of the track every year. With rising feed prices and a sinking economy there's no way people will choose to feed horses over their kids. Look at the facts whoever you are. Look at the horse abandonment rates over the last year, they've gone up. Look at local auctions and look at the prices of horses, they're down. So you have 26 horses. Good for you. Can you give them the medical care they need? Deworming, vaccinations. The costs add up. Common sense. Get over it.

  • Of course I was trying to explain to HEX8899

  • FYI.I pick up horses at the border and I find homes for them.I rescue hundreds a year like that. Before judging, check. I'm not the only one doing that.I myself have 26 american horses here that I pay for and I don't mind. Just be careful not to become in need of anything cause I don't know anyone who would be willing to rescue you. I would'nt. Nature's law is the only one.I DON'T GIVE A RAT'S BEHIND about your USDA Reg.Show me a HUMANE way to kill,is it the one u use to kill a human? U STUPID

  • Congratulations you idiots. It's been passed. You've officially put the American horse industry in the gutter. You don't realize that 90,000 horses come off the tracks every year, and then there's the thousands of PMU mares and foals and wild horses that the land can't support that we're paying for. Horse slaughter is regulated by the USDA and it's humane in the US, not in Canada and Mexico, and that's where the horses are sent with people sneaking them across the border.

  • go horses stop the slaughter!

  • STOP SLAUGHTER!
