@moonoink Uhhhh, I think you found this comment too late lol. Ten months ago, I didn't know anything about Metra, fare-wise that is, but was desperate to ride it for the first time in my life. Finally did it in March of this year. Did it once again in July for my birthday, and did it again earlier today. These fares are nothing, and I don't think that the 28% fare hike that's suppose to occur next year will hurt me either.

Number 209 is a GM EMD F40PHM-2,basically the same running gear as a regular F40PH locomotive but with a revised front end to give it a more modernized European look. F40PHM-2s were last locomotives built at EMDs LaGrange,Illinois plant in 1992 before production was switched over to London,Ontario,Canada. They were also the last F40 series locomotives built. Due to the "new look" some crews nicknamed the units "Winnebagos" because of their resemblance to the famous R/V.

Okay, not trying to sound like a deadbeat or criminal, but is there a way to get pass the high fares on Metra outside of Zone A-Downtown Chicago?
Just trying to find a cheap alternative to get to and from Point A and B.

The reason for no run up is that they got to keep the engines running at speed to keep the generator powering the lights. To be honest I hate this design. I tell my niece and nephew that these locomotives have no soul. The newer ones have electronic inverters so they can Idle down. I still love the F7's and E8's (the 1960-1980 locomotives. Now they had soul. If you ever see a double loco, they idle down one of them.

Great video. Franklin park is a good place to film trains.

heck no, they do share some lines though. the BNSF aurora sub. METRA is only chicago-land service.
The windows on the cars seem to be in really strange locations. Are they double deckered?

@ButterflyDragon9 Yes, they are double decked cars. There are different models of the cars. Some of them date to the 1960s.
