During his rendition of Duffy's "Mercy," live in San Diego, Mayer rips on his signature strat, akin to the great Stevie Ray Vaughn, then plays on his knees. This is the precisely the reason to see him live. His records do him NO justice.

Sorry for the shaky camera-work. People needing to go to the restroom etc. kept bumping into me in my aisle. Plus the guy in front of me had a gigantic head.

this is why i love youtube! i was at this show.. I got free tickets (good seats!) but wasnt a fan of his at all and just went cause i had nothing better to do.. little did i know that i was about to witness one of the BEST guitar shows i've ever been too. I agree, his records give him no "real" justice... Now i know why they compare him to sir slowhand!

i've been noticing he's doing alot of stage tricks like his idol buddy guy. his last show in west palm beach i saw him play between his legs, behind his back, etc. just like good ol buddy guy and it still sounded great. amazing performer, john mayer
