I'm planning to replace the pickups in my Road Worn Strat, and before I did that, I figured it'd be a good idea to capture the sound of the stock Tex-Mex pickups.

I'm getting a set of Klein S-5 Scooped pickups, modeled after the "Big Dipper" pickups that you'll find in the John Mayer signature Strat (which I didn't like playing enough to buy). Once those arrive, and they're set up, I'll try and make another video.

In the other video, I'll try and remember to play some more with the Low/Mid/High knobs on the Hot Rod Deluxe. For now, I recommend you check out this video to see a demonstration of why I set my amp this way: http://www.youtube.com/watch#v=ktQiEGUZqHc

  • Is this a USA or Mexican FENDER ? (congratulations great tone!)

  • @kalilmv Road Worn strats are Mexican-made. Personally I feel it plays better than the US-made strat I sold a while ago to fund its purchase…

  • @sd28sachems At what point does someone stop practicing before they post a video? If we never record ourselves, we'll never see our flaws and improve on them. I like looking back on these videos and seeing how far I've come…

  • @Commiteee

The first licks he plays are John Mayer - Who did you think I Was

  • love the tone!... I'm really thinking about buying this strat now... thanks for the demo!..

  • if you dont want the 7.25 radius with the tex mexs, go for the roadword player strat, it has 9.5 radius and texas specials and in olympic white a 2 tone sunburst.

  • Love that tone! I have tex mex pickups in my neck and middle positions, but how do I get my tone as warm and bouncy as yours? What were your settings?

  • after many years of swapping out pickups ultimately and thousands of dollars later I discovered .. that any normal pickup is fine.. its all in the fingers

  • @sd28sachems Let's see your playing...

  • come on guys...constructive critism.....uplift, not the tother....jam on brother!

  • What was that blues thing you? SRV?

  • I have thought of buying this guitar. But how does it feels to play compared to the US model?
