This was a combination promotional film and "blooper reel", prepared for a CBS Affiliate Advisory Board meeting in the summer of 1963. "John", as Arness mentions at :09, was the live "emcee" {a CBS executive, no doubt} at the event who gave the cue for the film to begin by probably saying, "And now, let's head to Dodge City for a few words from our #1 Marshal on Saturday nights, Mr. James Arness...". The ending, incidentally, was listed as a "blooper" by Kermit Schafer in one of his books.

"John" was John Wayne who introduced the first episode of "Gunsmoke" on television

Very funny stuff! But no "Perry Mason" bloopers? There was Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Have Gun, and even Twilight Zone, all CBS-OWNED/produced shows of the late 1950s/early 1960s era. But Perry Mason was also part of that group of dramatic shows of that era, also owned-and-produced by the CBS Television Network. I was hoping to see some goofs with Perry, Paul, Della, Tragg, Burger!

Awesome stuff for sure. Watching Gunsmoke as a kid I always thought that it was real life. It's funny to see how there are real and regular people behind the series and they mess up just like anyone else. Also, i really liked the Red Skelton clip. I remember whatching him as well. It was nice to be able to see classic shows like this in a whole new light. Thank you for posting and giving me some really good laughs!

RIP Mr James Arness,
another un replaceable cowboy bites the dust.

7:29 he said fuck you to the horse.

BTW - that "mock-up" of a beer ad was absolutely hilarious.

At 9:50, Red Skelton gives a quick shot to his show's sponsor: "Not only does she give milk (pause), she gives Pet-Rich pies!" Gotta wonder how Pet canned milk felt about that one.

Yes I remember growing up watching Mission Impossible-starring Peter Graves and watching Gunsmoke-starring James Arness, that they were definitely related because they sounded a like. Then I learned they were not only related, they were brothers. Peter Graves and James Arness are great actors and Peter is surely missed as will his brother James when he is gone. They do not make actors like them two anymore.
Chester says : "Waal, I s'pose I better git Mr Dillon ". The cowboy-extra then retorts : "You mean Marshall Dillon ?" .. Then Chester comes back with " No .. Bobby Dylan .. he'll write a SONG about your PROBLEM !". Close your eyes & listen closely to James Arness' voice in this clip .. doesn't he sound the exact same as his equally-famous brother .. the TV actor Peter Graves !! Amazing !! Congrats on this posting, tvdays !! Outstanding !!
