Pernyataan Sri Sultan HB X untuk maju sebagai calon presiden 2009 mendapat reaksi positif. Lembaga Survei Pusat Kajian Kebijakan dan Pembangunan Strategis (Puskaptis) menilai, Sri Sultan memiliki nilai jual tinggi di 2009 mendatang.

Hal ini diungkapkan Direktur Puskaptis, Husin Yazid saat dihubungi okezone di Jakarta, Rabu (29/10/2008).

"Berdasarkan hasil survei dengan 1.645 responden di enam kabupaten kota Jakarta, Sultan menduduki posisi ke empat. Sementara posisi di atasnya adalaha SBY, Megawati dan Prabowo," kata Husin.

Dari hasil tersebut, lanjutnya, Sultan memiliki peluang besar di pemilihan presiden 2009. "Untuk dicalonkan sebagai capres maupun cawapres, Sultan memiliki potensi yang besar," tegasnya.

Yogyakarta's dynastic ruler and elected governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X announced his run for the presidency in next year's general elections during an event attended by tens of thousands at Yogyakarta Palace's Alun-Alun Utara (Northern square) on Tuesday afternoon.

"I am ready to become president," he told the crowd of people from the region and nearby areas, who came expressly to pay respect to the Sultan in a visit dubbed Pisowanan Agung, or Grand Visit.

Hamengkubuwono said he had asked God for a sign before making the announcement, which he considered an "answer to the call of the motherland."

With his family at his side, the sultan accepted a round of applause from the assemblage. The event was also attended by 45 other traditional rulers from across the archipelago
