Here's a tune I grew up with, visiting Puerto Rico.

A poetic translation is:

I had a light that lit me from within.
Along came a breeze and blew it right out

While living in San Jose,
I fell in love with a woman.
In all the land,
There was no one like her
But she spied me with her sister and she left.

I had a light that lit me from within.
Along came a breeze and blew it right out.

I then met a young woman
She told me her name was Juanita.
I was so in love with her,
I asked her for her hand,
But she told me I did not fit into her life.

I had a light that lit me from within.
Along came a breeze and blew it right out.

The chorus brings back many memories for me of Christmases in Puerto Rico

As a young boy growing up in chicago my father sang the original song all the time.

I was searching for the original song and came acoss your, i have to tell you that your song is better then the original one. Thanks for the beautiful gift of music.

  • La canción orginal es de Alfonso Vélez, pero te felicito por tu versión. Me gusta como suena esa guitarra.

  • I heard this song for the first time as a child when living in Venezuela. Odilio Gonzalez was the interpreter. You have done a great job creating your own version. Bravo!
