Here in Arizona we have really hard water. We fight with the white film on our glassware all the time. Now we have found out something new and natural. After cleaning the dishwasher we will use our natural dishwasher detergent to keep our dishes clean. I have heard of using citric acid, however, at this point I don't see a need to buy it.

  • Careful with the bleach and the vinegar. Those two react chemically to produce chlorine gas which is extremely poisonous and reactive. In other words, it will kill you in a matter of minutes.

  • @plane63 thank you for letting me know about that reaction, however, with this method you do not add them together but, instead run one cycle with the bleach and another cycle after that with the vinegar. What do you use for cleaning your dishwasher? Thanks again for the comment!

  • @plane63 People always think mixing bleach with any acid creates Chlorine gas, this isnt true. The only acid that reacts with bleach to create chlorine gas is Hydrochloric acid. There are a lot of household cleaners that do contain hydrochloric acid (toilet bowl cleaners, lysol products, etc), however, white vinegar does not.

  • @ArizonaAdventures I know you were, but I didn't want you to get too cocky per say and mix them to create a so called "super cleaner." We in New York also suffer from hard water, and indeed the best way to clean such minerals left behind as a result of hard water is to use bleach. Vinegar may help a little bit, but because of impurities in supermarket vinegar it usually leaves behind its own residue overtime.

  • That's a great tip! Thanks for posting this. I know I'm going to try it. Bye.
