Here's a link to the site I mentioned and the type of grips I was looking at: http://www.grips4guns.com/pistol/colt/item_1202012.html
They are a bit pricey, but I think they will look good, and still work well on the pistol. I may also consider a pair of rubber grips down the road. I do like them on my SA 1911. The Pachmayrs I have on my Kimber are nice looking, but the rubber is quite soft and spongy. But it's still not too bad to shoot. I do like the checkering on the front of the frame on the Kimber, so I'm still trying to decide what grips I want to put on it.

From what I have been able to discover the Officer and Defender models have the same size frame, and are basically otherwise the same. I'm not a Colt expert, so if someone knows any differences, then do share.

As far as the guide rod issue, there are some out there that require modifications to the slide in some fashion. I can't imagine it's a drastic modification, but I'd rather not modify it. I had a Para Ordnance P12 and found a guide rod for it, and I don't believe I modified anything. I don't remember, but I'd like to find one for this pistol.

Thought about some Pachmayrs but I don't really like them for some reason. But, if someone has them on their gun let me know how they work. Maybe post a video response or something to this video with anyone that has a grip set up they really like on theirs.

  • Hey man, nice vid. I am a fan of the original look, but for practicality I would go with something like the rubber grips on your one 1911. Happy birthday to the 1911!

  • @VeeR666T I think I will end up getting a pair of the rubber ones, but I also want to see how the wood ones will look on it that wrap around the front. No checkering or anything on the front makes it really smooth. I like a positive grip so I don't have to squeeze the gun too hard. I'll try some stuff out, and put out an update when I find something I like.

  • @MarshalZhukov I am guilty of not reading your description, lol. Those grips you are looking at are great. They look really comfortable. I would get them for sure.

  • Altamont makes nice Colt branded grips. I have a pair on my XSE and they are sweet. I'm not sure office they make officer sized grips though.

  • i have the pachmayrs on my springfield and love them so i totally understand the desire to get something different...i know it is corny but check ebay...i have found a great deal of good options for grips there...take care
