Do NOT get a border collie unless you are prepared to spend a significant amount of time every single day playing with them.
I have one - and I LOVE him - but I can't keep him stimulated the way he needs.
Border collies are wonderful dogs but they really do belong on a farm.

i do agree with your advice and i would 'never' recommend a collie as a pet imho they do indeed need something to think about and a job to do but.... There are thousands and thousands of collies doing trials, obedience, flyball, agility some for competition some just for fun, that have great fun and are mentally stimulated working as a team with their mum or dad.

These are great for border collies. If you can work these into your schedule, then a farm may not be the answer.
When my kids leave home, I'm going to get my dog started on one of those activities.

Good for you, you get yourself gone you have a great time. The social side for us is pretty good too :-) Nothing like spending the full weekend sat with like minded people enjoying their dogs with a glass of wine on a warm summers evening! FABBY!

Please everyone...spay and neuter your pets. We have an epidemic. For every puppy born...one will die in a shelter waiting for a home.

Yes, i absolutely agree there is far too much indiscriminate breeding and far too many rescue/shelter dogs! but please remember there are breeders that have loving permanent homes awaiting. The lady that bred these has been breeding, teaching and working her collies for over 30yrs that IMHO is dedication to a breed.
Believe me i work with rescues week in week out so have and do see it from both sides.
