My love for Charlie Brooker knows no bounds. Here I am reciting a preview of Soldier of Fortune that he did towards the end of his PC Zone career. This sort of thing was the ambient noise of my teenage years, which goes a long way to explaining a lot of things.

The reason I've done this is not simply because I'm a Brooker fanboy since 1995 or so, but because these magazine articles and such are basically lost to time, unless you are crazy and/or lonely enough have a stack of ten year old PC Zones like myself. And yet they were often hilariously funny, obviously; so this is a sort of Digital Brooker Preservation if you like.

Incidentally, anyone else really hoping that his new Screen Wipe sister project is something like "Pixel Wipe" - ie a Screen Wipe-style series about videogames? Because he has often grumbled about the lack of gaming coverage on the tellybox, and maybe, just maybe...

The footage is courtesy of Rockstar Productions here on the Tube. I'll do more of these I expect (unless someone, Felix Dennis maybe, kicks me to death for using words he printed), but then I said that about The Hard Sell. Sorry about the shit video quality, but then it's the words you're interested in, right?

  • Ignore the previous comment I made on the other video, I thought it was Brooker.

  • Yeah, sorry, maybe I should make that clear for all of them.

  • I don't like playing shoot 'em up games anymore because when I applied to join the army to kick some Taliban arse they said I was too fat *sobs*

  • Wouldn't typing them up be a better way to preserve these Brooker rareties?

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Forgot to mention; Charlie Brooker's Pixel Wipe would be the best show this millennium. Easily.

And speaking of video-gamme-related-cynicism, your voice combined with Brooker's writing reminds me a lot of Zero Punctuation; which Pixel Wipe would give a serious run for its money.

  • GUNS. GUNS. GUNS. AND MORE GUNS.

Brilliant; the more Brooker I hear the happier I am. Thanks for this - I only got into Brooker three years ago, but since then I bought both his Gaurdian-compilation books and have videotaped several episodes of Screenwipe. The man is genius.

And if anyone has any copies of Unnovations or TVGoHome knocking about I have a spare kidney.
