  • I have the two books and yes your right. the 1983 Master Game won by Tony Miles, was played in Bath .U.K. I went along to that one, and the series was made for German T.V. The engeneers went on strike, so it was never shown. However the final between Miles and Karpov has been retrieved and can be purchased on ebay now!

  • @mcpartridgeboy White has to be careful about opening the position with his KB still at home. Also, the P/d4 loses support. White will probably have to play c2-c3 in the next couple moves to prevent the central structure from breaking down, which is another tempo not being used for development.

  • Thanks for putting the videos up. i used to watch this programme as a kid and always enjoyed it.

  • At 4 01 couldnt byrne play c4 attacking the queen stopping blacks cramping c4 ang getting d3 for his bishop ?

  • There were two books: one covered the early series 1975-77, the second book 1979-81 (guess there wasn't a competition in 1978). Both have transcripts of the players' "thoughts". I don't think the 1982 series was ever published; and I believe the 1983 series was never *broadcast* (although the games were played) because of a BBC engineers' strike or something...

  • Great to see this again. I remember it from winter evenings on BBC2 in schooldays. There's also a book of the series that might still be around.

  • @SearchBucket Thanks. Having looked it up I feel I ought to have known that!

  • Excellent- this was such a fantastic presentation of Chess on TV and still unsurpassed. Thanks for sharing these!

  • Ah I always wondered about that.

  • @pokeround It's a peice by Ennio Morricone called "Come Maddalena"
