I just did it using your suggestion and it worked a treat. Very easy and very safe. I felt it was a little more precise somehow than the plunger.

the dumbest most reckless thing about this is i actually bought suction cups on ebay before i realized i had this in the closet.

I bought a pack of 2 small suction cups at walmart for $2. Only takes one. Works fine. Sorry, I'd rather pay a couple bucks for a couple of suction cups than to use a sink/toilet plunger.

You don't even need a plunger - just use the sucker of a windshield mount for a SatNav on one of the top corners.

that is true i guess. However going on the most likely suction cup for a family to own, i would say that this one is it. And a new one costs less than a suction cup designed for it!
