Elves Break Guinness World Record in New York

Six hundred and seven of Santa's little helpers swarmed Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan.

The big-eared elves were attempting to break the Guinness World record for the largest gathering ever of, well, elves, of course.

The stunt was part of a marketing campaign for a new movie on the ABC network.

Guinness representative Danny L. Girton Jr. confirmed that the diminutive imps succeeded in their quest.

[Danny L. Girton Jr., Adjudications Executive, Guinness World Records]:
We had certain documentations in place to verify that indeed 607 people were present for ten minutes. There were time-keepers to validate the time requirements, we also had log books and there were further discussions beforehand regarding the dress that everybody has on today. And I'm very pleased to say that without a doubt this is a new Guinness World Records title."

Stars Jenny McCarthy and Dean McDermott were also on hand to support the green and red clad petite pixies.

"You always hope that you're involved in something kind of cool and different and now I can say - ha ha, you guys probably haven't been involved in breaking the World Guinness Record."

"It's a little surreal but it's amazing that these people, take time out of their day and come down here and help us set an elf record."

Full disclosure - the elfin event was in fact the first time that an elves gathering record was ever attempted.

No word from the North Pole on whether six hundred and seven is enough to get Santa through the busy season.
