Chicago's interurban rail system sprawled out throughout Northwest Indiana and the system on this side was extensive, mind-blowing how we buried the answer to our oil woes under the asphalt we drive on. It is clearly the answer to our oil dependency and not even being considered here. When you can't even fuel your car to use it, the street cars don't look too bad do they... And they just keep dumping more money in highways- unsustainable and insane!
I'm sure the insurance companies have their hands in this as well. We are basicly forced to purchase overpriced vehicles, insurance, gasoline, pay taxes etc., just to survive in our metropolistic world. I live in a city with absolutely no form of public transportation, and the city is dubbed as great place to retire. Yes, it is, so long as you can own, drive, and maintain your own vehicle. Otherwise your out of luck. I would welcome an electric rail system in our city any day. BTW, great video!
We in Sydney Australia lost our trams to the scrapyards because of politicians having their stinking dirty hands in the tills of the oil barons, by building a fleet of over 1700 Single & Double deck buses to run over 260 miles of roadways. Although we finally return trams to one single route from Central Railway to Wentworth Park, 41/2 miles long, it's a step in the right direction but from 1961 - 1996 we paid a heavy price with clogged roads & are still paying. Much is yet to be done with our
