Akira Kurosawa--Music for Film: Throne of Blood

Kurosawa's 1957 samurai adaption of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" is a somber tale of a man driven to madness to take on more power. Masaru Sato's score relies heavily on traditional Japanese music, especially influenced by No dramas. It will likely sound hard to Western ears.

This music has sunk deep into my soul. Does Noh music really sound a lot like this, or is it rather just a passing similarity?

To me it doesn't sound 'dead' but incredibly sad, sorrowful (which in a way is the opposite of dead). How i imagine music for the ancient greek drama could sound.
