Rex Murphy "The Useless Canadian Gun Registry"

Rex Murphy was right, it was a feel good, reactionary policy to a problem that exists. The Federal Liberals in its thirst for votes turned thousands of average taxpaying Canadians into criminals overnight. The Liberals blew "Billions" of dollars on a system that did not need fixing? Canadians have had firearms in the the home since the homesteading days. The Liberals used this for votes.

@mightymissk Yah they actually could respond to every domestic dispute as if theres a gun in the house because guess what they do! Do you actually think a police officer is going to go into a violent household with nothing but a smile and a clean face?
-
@mightymissk Also if you liberals had guns you could've used them to get you freedom of assembly back.
-
@mightymissk Freedom of assembly is important I agree. But if leaders of the First Nations were being followed it was for a reason. If you were from up North you would know that many of the Leaders are corrupt and they take most of the funding for themselves while giving little to the people. Harper is merely trying to get rid of the corruption. The problem up north isn't a lack of funding, it's a lack of caring leadership. Also all of this has nothing to do with the Registry anyway

@mightymissk Yah those damn cops arresting all those poor innocent people. Even if you're arrested your innocent until proven guilty. So therefore an arrest isn't that bad. Police brutality is bull too if a cop is trying to arrest you and you resist the violence you recieve will escalate until you are in the patrol vehicle. So why should we care about a few drunk hippies who got what they deserved.

@grand778 There was not a word out of any of you when Harper systematically attacked freedom of assembly--the oldest and most basic human right. Right wingers talk about freedom but, you only mean freedom for gun freaks. Harper's had CSIS following native leaders & human rights activists around ON OUR TAX DOLLARS. He's been spying on ordinary Canadians. He's building prisons for pot smokers. He's interfered with the independence of judges. Any protests from the gun freaks? No. Tory hypocrites.
-
@grand778 You spout right wing mythology. Registration does NOT lead of confiscation, unless you're a wife beater or a drug dealer. And our freedoms are being systematically taken away, but not by gun control advocates. We are losing our freedoms because the RIGHT WING government of Stephen Harper is taking them away. Harper sent 19 thousand cops to Toronto, where they illegally assaulted, detained, and incarcerated over a 1000 people. And I didn't hear A PEEP out of any of you gun freaks.
-
@grand778 Nonsense. You say "they may know if there are registered guns in a house" but won't know about unregistered guns. You are missing the point. When Harper gets finished deliberately destroying the records, cops WON'T know if there's a registered gun in that house. And how can they respond to every domestic dispute as it there is a gun--by having a SWAT team arrive, maybe having a helicopter flying overhead? No. By having a computer in their cruisers that says "Joe Blow's got a shotgun."
-
@mightymissk The police should respond to every domestic dispute as if there's a gun in the home. They may know if there are registred guns in a house but they have no idea if there are unregistered ones. A person who is likely to be in a domestic dispute and use violence is far more likely to use his unregistered 9mm handgun he bought on the streets of Toronto, than use his registered sporting rifle anyway
-
@mightymissk Registration leads to confiscation which leads to political castration. An unarmed population is easy to control, with todays liberal mindset so concerned on societies safety it would be easy for the near communist liberals to take away a democratic societies freedom if they didn't have guns
-
@mightymissk I ignored the facts? Tell me im wrong when i say the handgun registry has not stopped the rise of killings with handguns and restricted rifles, or that the homicide rate with long guns was on a strong decline before the long gun registry was put in. Also the situation cops are mostlikely to be killed in is gang or criminal violence with illegal guns, and the data is the regisrty ive known this when harper was still in calgary picking his ass, you cant have one without the other.

Beginning your rant with a definition from the dictionary is rather pompous. The argument was just ridiculous.

@Pepsicoke33
Emphasizing the dictionary definition(s) of “useless” to reference his use of the adjective is not pompous. It is brilliant. The argument was just ridiculous? I suggest you watch the video again and try to listen this time.
