For at least 10 years the Arkansas has been dry in western Kansas. Although water is dammed in eastern Colorado water still fows into Kansas. But as it reaches Deerfield KS the remaining water is diverted to a ditch known as The Great Eastern Ditch used for irrigation thus causing the water not being able to flow east. But recently the dam in Deerfeild has been opened letting water flow east again for the first time in 10 years. Sadly the dam will be closed soon stopping the flow. Please excuse my grand father taking at the begaining of the video he was shocked to see that the water was frozen. Water level is now 30ft wide 1/2 foot deep.

  • Haha It NEVER makes it to garden. I wonder when the last time Dodge City Saw water. Yeah all the water that makes it this far ends up in The Great eastern ditch, the Amazon ditch and Lake McKinny

  • All I know is that theres a tiny stream west of Dodge in the river. I'd say atleast 15 miles west of dodge just before you enter the town of Ford KS. The stream is so small that is barley noticeable.

  • bout time i haven't seen water in that river since I was a kid

  • Yea true sadly its only temporary

  • @empires228 There was until sometime two weeks ago. I ended catching some decent size crappies in the left over puddles.

  • @BNSF7776 while it lasted? we have water at the moment last time I checked lol

  • @empires228 atleast the water made it out into town for a short while. Fun while it lasted.

  • the reason why it dont have any water in it is cause it flows under the ground if you didn't know that i remember before i moved to Minnesota there was all ways water in it

  • Haha yeah I noticed last time I went though the area My friends mom was ranting about how Ford is a dump when its her last name) and the bed was pretty green with what looked like cattails. Reminded me of the Pawnee river out by Kalvesta. I need to go see if it has any water this week end. I know there's some steams that feed into Ford country lake. But that's their final destination.
