@agapefriend04 I read somewhere that Donald was always a little self-conscious about his appearance and this insecurity manifested itself in some of his lyrics (Fire in the hole) I don't think he'd be half the genius he is without a bit of the introspection caused by insecurity. I don't think he's given up, he's just looking in the wrong places. I can only hope that he gives the glory for his supreme musicianship back to God and finds solace.

@MrAmericanaSam ALWAYS is cool (but it's a maxi pad)..I'm not religious but outside of the Vatican I think, a new sculpture; the earth; rotating...as though a greater intelligence from within the present earth jus a shell: metamorphosis?..16 trillion it's deficit the USA I would NOT. I think of atom bombs, when I hear this... The message in the words of this song evokes all kinds of images, those we don't want and those we do. The contrast is what contributes to the richness of this song. :-)

Yes, I too think it's a song of contrasting imagery.
If you want straight-up bleak, try "King of the World."
