Hmm. I can simply add it as needed though there would be a bit of a pause in the motion. I suppose that's OK. Thanks for your thoughts, and thanks for sharing Ayurveda on YouTube.
Pumps generally are not that good of an idea as they add a strong and altered electro-magnetic force to the oil. Best just to have some exrtra warm on hand and just add it to the pot as needed.
Good point. I was thinking about using an aquarium pump controlled with a foot petal to replenish the oil (from the crock pot to the vessel) without needing to pause to refill it. Not sure this would work practically, just an idea.
I also noticed some place a hot water bottle on the abdomen during this treatment, though I'm not sure why.
The oil is heated in a hot towel cabi, crock pot, or hot plate. Actually, regarding the thickness or consistency of the stream, a valve will be more reliable as you can open the valve up more as the oil weight and pressure from within the pot diminishes. you cannot do this with a wick. it will gradually just thin out.
We have seen both and many of the Vaidyas who come to the west that we have studied with use bowl with valves. The wicks are especially useful for very extended treatments. I do not think that spa need this, nor do I think spa technicians would take the time to work with these properly.

My main concern is maintaining temperature, though I suppose using a pitcher for a little while wouldn't affect it much.

You wouldn't have to have a pause. Just have a pitcher nearby and add before your pot drains fully.

The valve-type looks fine, and convenient, I would only be concerned that the oil would not come out in a consistent stream.
How do you heat your oil? Do you use a hot plate?

Interesting, I've never seen a shirodhara vessel without a cotton wick.
