He talked more about the disadvantages of wood then any advantages. the best thing he said about them was that it's sound was very sweet, and that was directed to his own recorder. I think that for a child, yes plastic would be the best, but for an young adult on up, wood is the way to go. Even if you do put in a crazy amount of time into a wood recorder, it builds a bond and a love for the piece, creating something absolutely beautiful. It's a personal preference kind of thing.
