I don't know when I first heard this song but I only just learned it was a Greg Brown song. Greg is a great songwriter and you should hear him do his songs.

  • Nice rendition, my friend, I have never heard Greg Brown's version but bspg53 I also have encountered Michael Johnson's righteous version! Like anything else that comes out of Michael Johnson's mouth, it was, is and always will be angelic!

  • I haven't heard this song since 1984 when I heard someone perform it at Caffè Lena in Saratoga Springs. I've often thought of it over the years, one of my favorite tunes. Thanks so much for posting it!

  • Oh my, just found the MJ version on my hard drive. Now I need to go to the SIL'house and hope the origianl vinyl is there with my old collection.

  • Yup...me too! gotta hear the MJ version again.

  • I cannot find the Michael Johnson version ANYWHERE! It's driving me crazy!

  • Michael Johnson has a fabulous version of this song on his debut album "There is a Breeze" (early 70's).

  • Nice recording. But, a phrasing issue: Timbuktu should be phrased to correspond with captains and cuckoos

    'all the captains and cuckoos

    from here to tim -buktu

You've got a nice way with the song. I hpe you get to try it this way.

  • i sung this song at camp!!!
