Song for Pa

From the instant that you held me,

The love that you gave to us,
was never compromised,

from the day that I was born,

Early in my childhood,
When I was learning right from wrong,
I would ask a hundred questions,
you were there to respond,
you gave me trust and independence,
You always encouraged me,
ANd I became an adult,
Long before I was a teen,

When I became a teenage boy,
I couldn't shake my frustrations,
You sat me down and showed me truth,
you always had such patience,
You told me not to worry,
About things that I can't change,
Life aint always easy,
And its often unexplained

When I was finding new interests,
You never forced anything on me,
You left me decide for myself,
What I was going to be,
And I picked up your guitar,
ANd I began to play,
You sang for me sweet melodies
And I was on my way

So I moved out on my own
Down south and then out west
It was our conversations
that I remember best
I'd get a little homesick
As children often do
But because of your advice
I always made it through

When I told you for the first time,
of my unborn child,
You said this is a blessing,
And you said it with a smile,
and things happen for a reason,
And you will soon find out,
When you hold your kid the first time
You'll learn what life's about,

When I started writing this tune
my eyes began to tear
But I know not to worry
I know that you're still here
I can hear you in the silence
I can see you in the stars
And if I want to see you
I'll look inside my heart

Oh my word, what a beautiful song and voice--- so insightful for a young man.....I can tell just by your words, that your dad gave you all the tools you need to be a good man and to carry on.....he must be listening with pride....Absolutely incredible. What a beautiful tribute and memorial to your Pa..and you're right, they never leave us--just look for the signs. I'd say Bless you...but you already are...
