Leonard Schmiege, candidate for city council district 8 in St. Petersburg speaks to Development Review Commission in an attempt to convince them not to 'give' or 'vacate' the sidewalk. Vacating the sidewalk means it is no longer an easement under the control of the city but would be private property under control of Baywalk so that they would be able to arrest or serve trespass notice on anyone they don't like, thus destroying a public area of free speech and freedom of assembly for the explicit purpose of facilitating retail shopping. This is unconstitutional.
I love the peace protestors, but I have to disagree on this. Baywalk is not the public square, especially when there is an actual public square one block in either direction. Besides, who the hell goes to Baywalk besides you guys? You're preaching to the choir.
