@2918784 During the Cold War, most educated Americans knew the difference between the Soviet government and the Russian people (and the Ukrainians, Kazakhs, Buryats, etc.) and their beautiful cultures.

What's up with the majority of the commenters here? Most of the useful, factual comments are 'flagged' or 'spam' but the minions spouting "Ussr is the bulwark of Peace" and "I love the USSR" are prominent. You can love Russia without loving the USSR, by the way. You can be nostalgic for your youth and good times while realizing the seriously awful things that caused the USSR to give back Russia to the Russian people! Good gracious!
