@PvtZ yes he does use a 7 string live, but its tuned AADDGBE, not AEADGBE. And as letsgetcarriedaway said, he used a 6 string tuned to A while recording it.

@PvtZ err, yeah i've seen it played live and i've watched countless videos of it being played live. it is true that matt uses a seven string live (that was originally built for a jazz guitarist who ended up returning it) for citizen erased. however, when he was recording it in the studio, he didn't have that guitar. so he used a 6 string tuned to standard, and replaced his low E with a bass string tuned to A.
