Botswana, compared to the other countries in Africa is pretty progressive. It has a per capita income of around $14,000.
To get some contrasting perspectives: Turkey is about to join the EU & its per capita income in around $12,000. Botswana's neighbor Zimbabwe, on the other hand, has a per capita income of just $500, with Mugabe in charge.
It does seem Botswana has, more consistently than developing countries, elected more progressive leaders who have better long term, societal visions.

I saw this film today. Once again the Jouberts have made an exceptionally beautiful and powerful film.It is moving and important- and magnificent. Thank you to Beverly and Dereck and National Geographic
