Lavagem Da Rua 46 (Cleansing of 46th Street)

History

This event is inspired by the tradition dating back to the 18th century involving mysticism, charm, and religious foundation of the area of
northeast Brazil known as Bahia.

The 'Cleansing of 46th Street' will reflect the religious character of Bahia with performances that are meant to purify and energize through the
celebration of natural base elements like water, flowers, and perfumes, which are employed in the movement for peace and unification of all people.

The location for this special festivity is Little Brazil or West 46th Street, where Brazilian Day started 24 years
ago. The event begins at 10am and is held during the last weekend in August on Saturday, August 30, along W 46th Street in Manhattan between 6th and
Madison Avenues.

The special celebration of Bahia is expected to attracting upwards of 500,000 people.

We are extending an invitation for you to attend and participate in this celebration. We would like you to address the community concerning your
priority for anti-violence and peace in our communities. The celebration showcases the cultural and ethnic diversity of historic BAHIA. Our event is scheduled to include community-based organizations, ethnic foods and merchandise, music and art and family
activities that celebrate the historic BAHIA region. This will be a tremendous opportunity
to provide valuable resources, information and services to the
community.

Your presence and assistance at this function will be greatly appreciated and we are looking forward to your favorable response.

Program

After the cleansing, the event continues for two days on West 46th Street with a variety of local Brazilian artists, foods of typical northeastern cuisine (moquecas, acarajes, abaras & vatapa) and everything that represents Northeast Brazil.

- Live Entertainment - The Main Stage will feature some of your favorite world-reknowned and local Afro-Cuban and Brazilian artists.

- Vendor Booths - Of authentic Brazilian arts & crafts and merchandise, as well as community and service organizations.

- Food Vendors - offering authentic Brazilian and American Cuisines typical of northeastern Brazil.

- Folk Exhibitions - consists of unique and illustrious artisans demonstrating their expert craftmanship.

With the support from Joao de Matos, a native of Bahia, Silvana Magda, to reach out to the local artistic community and keep the Brazilian traditions alive, created this concept.

Involvement

This program is comprised of two days (August 30th & 31st), the Cleansing of 46th Street ceremony will bless the event on Saturday, August 30th. A
procession will start with traditional Bahianas, dressed in white and adorned with colorful beads and rosaries in honor of all the saints, as done in
Bahia. Each person carries vases filled with flowers and perfumed water, which purifies the journey of the procession.

At the end of the procession, the official opening ceremony of the Brazilian Day will take place on Madison Avenue, with the cutting of the ribbon by Joao de Matos, chairman of
Brazil Day and by the godmother of the cleansing, who is an invited guest of honor whose identity will be the big
surprise to the public.

Immediately afterwards, dignitaries from Brazil, local legislators, festival organizers and a representative from your company will say a few words of support for the event.
