Travels 1989, Episode 1 Part 1
This is a Train trip across Canada as is in 1989, Fall just before the January 15th 1990 Cut's that cut Canada's passenger rail service by half. He travels from Sydney NS to Vancouver BC with meeting people/places in between. This is one of the greatest railway journeys in the world. This is from our original collection straight off VHS home movie from 1989. Split in to two episodes.

As for the name, "Last Train Across Canada" its the title of the show you can still travel across canada by train.

-------------------- Info
In these first parts Murray takes a Dayliner RDC to Halifax to Sydney then takes the former Atlantic from Halifax NS to Montreal QB with a stop in Quebec City.

  • I have this on VHS taped off PBS in the US from when I was about 4 years old...It never gets old watching this one!

  • Is this released on DVD???

  • @kmillard yes it is

  • Is that Gordon Lightfoot singing the opening song??

  • but luckily they saved the canadian. but this would be airing today as history if they did discontinue the canadian. ive never been on the canadian ive been on the ocean but i hear its a trip to remember.

  • RIP Murray Sayle

  • you know I still have this on tape. My parents taped it when I was 1 year old in 89 and I still bust it out once in a while. as for the name it was taped when VIA was moving from the CP to CN tracks on the Canadian (toronto to vancouver (i just rode the Canadian last month) and the Sydney to Halfax run (seen here) was being canceled. so in some ways the title is misleading
