People aren't born evil. We are born neutral, neither good nor evil. We just are. It is life and eventually our choices that make us who we are. Not all of us can control our childhood, and that certainly has created many an evil in the world.

The Witch had a choice though. When the four sisters scattered to the points of the compass, each maintained control in their own way. The witches of the north and south were known to be dearly loved by the time Dorothy came to Oz. But it was once like that for the Witch, in the Country of the Winkies.

In the far west she lived, in her stronghold. A mighty fortress that lay between two savage mountains. There she ruled for generations as a good kind ruler. Then one day, for the betterment of her kingdom she was forced to kill someone.

She justified it as best she could. She had no choice she eventually said. And it tore her apart. For a generation she was riddled with guilt.

This is the problem with immortality. Eventually she got over it. Then the next time she was forced to kill someone it became easier. Then she spent another few decades lamenting her actions. But she lived on, for the witch could not die by natural means.

So she lived on, and eventually after centuries of this, killing someone when she felt she had to for the greater good, the greater good became the greater evil. The darkness slipped into her like a lover into bed.

The darkness made it's home in the Witch, and after a millenia she was no longer the good witch of the west. She ruled with the darkness, finding killing to be a solution to even the smallest problems. Soon she tore bloody wounds across her land, and the people came to fear the Witch. The Wicked Witch of the West.

  • I think it's from Silent Hill 3.

  • This is amazing. I love the idea of the witch being good, then turned evil.

  • My thoughts on Elphaba are more in line with Gregory McGuire, except I have a softer heart for her than Mr. McGuire. Glinda is a pain in the ass...and is truly the wicked one.

  • I like the Carmen Santiago look on her! Long dark hair, & a young mysterious face hidden behind the hat. :)

  • I really enoyed this. Great perspective and thoughts

  • People arent born evil accept for Justin Bieber !

  • Evil is in a point of view! No one said it better than Tom Cruise in Interview! So there is the answer to Elphaba's question of evil that she questioned through the whole novel Wicked!

  • In my version shes a crazed power obsessed witch.

  • @samuraislider Silent Hill 4, actually. It's called, "Room of Angel".

  • If Elphaba was real I'd be her friend...

  • silent hilllll!! creepy song =)
