Video of Dan Johnson in Vancouver who invented an art form called helio graphics where he uses the sun and a magnifying glass to burn designs in to pieces of wood.

  • @Tronman63 - a set of #5 gas-welding safety glasses would do the trick & breaks only for eyestrain, not so much for damage...

  • I met an older guy in Bodega Bay in summer of '82 who did art like this on driftwood (had a funny name for it too) and sold it to the tourists he was a righteous due, got me out of a bad scene - would it were that my adrenalin-soaked brain recalled the guys name...

  • This is actually called "Solar Pyrography". Though "Heliographics" sounds good too; each of us comes to the craft in our own way, I suppose.

    There are several masters of this craft, including Solarbud, Durfsun, Jon Beartusk.

  • As you can see he wore dark sun glasses so if you wish to try this make sure you wear a good pair of dark sunglasses and take breaks to keep from damaging your eyesight!
