Helio Graphics

Video of Dan Johnson in Vancouver who invented an art form called helio graphics where he uses the sun and a magnifying glass to burn designs in to pieces of wood.

I met an older guy in Bodega Bay in summer of '82 who did art like this on driftwood (had a funny name for it too) and sold it to the tourists he was a righteous due, got me out of a bad scene - would it were that my adrenalin-soaked brain recalled the guys name...

This is actually called "Solar Pyrography". Though "Heliographics" sounds good too; each of us comes to the craft in our own way, I suppose.

There are several masters of this craft, including Solarbud, Durfsun, Jon Beartusk.

As you can see he wore dark sun glasses so if you wish to try this make sure you wear a good pair of dark sunglasses and take breaks to keep from damaging your eyesight!
