What a terrible place to die. Can't help thinking about poor David Sharp, Fran Arsentiev, Rob Hall etc. when I watch something like this.
-
I only think that Mallory is the best.

I've read about how in the death zone you have to take a dozen breaths after each step. But this video actually shows that.
Personally, I think Mallory made it to the top, and Irvine waited for him to come back down in vain.

I don't think anyone will ever find Irvine. The discovery of mallorys body only confuses u more. Irvine may have turned back and fallen later or may have fallen first and the mallory fell descending who knows the camera that was on him may give us insight into how far they got if it's still able to be developed after nearly ninety years in the snow.

Goodness that gradient looks steeper than 45 degrees. And these men are wearing thick clothing and have heavy loads on their backs!! Amazingly fit.

I'd like to think Mallory and Irvine made it as well. I just read something interesting about their clothing and basic gear, apparently it wasn't so primitive after all. Check 'innovation-for-extremes.' and look for malloryMyths, if you haven't already. Just for shits and giggles I'm having a pair Dunham Waffle Stompers decked out with TRICOUNI climbing nails to get a taste of the past.

Take a look at nastycop420's videos. You seriously need this guy, you could get a high resolution survey done very quickly.

No problem...definitely a great guy. I've known Dave for years, worked with him on Rainier for 6 seasons, and have gone to Everest with him on 4 of my 5 expeditions as well as South Georgia Island. Great guy, a good friend, and fun to climb with!

No definitive evidence to suggest one way or the other, but id like to think that they were the first as its such a fantastic story of courage.RIP george and Andrew.

You're right - no evidence to prove they did reach the top, and likewise (and often forgotten or brushed aside), no evidence whatsoever to prove the did not reach the top. A quintessential mystery, I guess. I, too, like to believe they reached the top in 1924 - wouldn't take anything away from Sir Edmund Hillary & Tenzing Norgay, as they made the first round trip, which is an important component to success - and would be amazing to have them there in '24 in wool, tweed, and hobnails.
