To take a stand on what one believes... to stand against the horror...
This is a great documentary... I suggest anyone who gets the chance to watch it... I watched it last night on Netflix... I am now argueing that WW2 began in 1937 instead of 1939...
Second: I had the pleasure of speaking with Dan Sturman in an East Asian Culture class I took in college. You probably do not know this, since most of your comments are based on HEARSAY (a word you seem so fond of), but the interviews w/Japanese soldiers were done by a JAPANESE. They had to go through 3 different natives before finding someone; the three priors had all received direct death threats. They still don't want people to know the truth of what really happened in Nanking
TAMAGAWABOAT: I had to create a Youtube account just so I could respond to all of your heinous comments about Nanking. First, most of your comments are completely false. The bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both preceded with warning. The latter of which the Emperor had exact knowledge of the repurcussions.
Tamagawa your country back then would be considered terrorists. I mean attacking people without warning, wheres your honor? Japan wanted to rule the world not liberate Asia. If you ask the other Asian countries Japan conquered they witnessed your nasty war crimes. The Atom bomb was the only option we had or we would had to fight Japan until we take the whole island.
Becuase "The Rape of Nanking" has a plenty of errors, those errors are as level as Japanese primary school pupils can point out and expose. It would have turned out that Iris Chang did not have any knowledge about Japan and Japanese history earlier. Because her errors are too childish. People who started believing Nanking Massacre by reading and hearing "The Rape of Nanking" should know this fact.
But Iris Chang refused this Japanese publisher's request and she had no choice but to abandon her plan. Therefore, few Japanese people knows what was written in "The Rape of Nanking" though many Japanese people know the tittle of this novel. If "The Rape of Nanking" had succeeded in publishing "Japanese version" in Japan, many Japanese would have read this novel and doubted the existence of Nanking Massacre earlier.
Therefore, when Iris Chang asked Japanese publisher to translate into Japanese and publish in Japan, Japanese publisher pointed out those 90 errors of "The Rape of Nanking" and requested Iris Chang to correct errors. Because Japanese publisher had pride as a publisher and did not want to be ashamed in public after publishing it.
Why did Iris Chang fail and abandon her plan? As soon as "The Rape of Nanking" was published in late of 1997, more than 90 errors in "The Rape of Nanking" were pointed out by many historians who read it, including American and Japanese. Most of those errors are so childish and primary as to be able to be pointed out by people who have the basic knowledge about Japan and Japanese history.
At first, Iris Chang planed "The Rape of Nanking" to translate into Japanese and publish this novel also in Japan. But her plan was failed. There is not the Japanese version of "The Rape of Nanking". As you know, very few Japanese people read books in English. Therefore, few Japanese people knows what was written in "The Rape of Nanking" though many Japanese people know the tittle of this novel.
