According to the latest census, 70% of public transportation users in Hampton Roads are African American. We are a year away from The Tide transporting citizens around Norfolk. What impact will The Tide have on the African American community? What will be the economic benefits? And how have citizens fared through the construction process? On the next Another View, Bruce Williams, Vice President of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials and Tamara Poulson of HRT bring new insight to the light rail discussion. Plus, find out how one eye doctor makes a major difference in relief efforts for Haiti.

  • The kids and I took a day to enjoy riding The Tide. We had a great experience. Warning: Get your tickets. There is a patrolman who rides The Tide to check for tickets with a ticket clipboard in his hand to fine those who don't.

I feel The Tide has made a positive impact on HR and am waiting for it to expand to the base and other surrounding cities.

  • Many people have laughed at me because I use the train and bus (and not having a car) Inside I am laughing because I put that "car money" for my savings.
