  • This was cool. What about these questions:

    1) Hip hop artist talk about jazz all the time. Rakim went further and explained that his flow was influenced by playing sax as a kid and thinking about the pauses and breathes he used on his horn helped his flow. Does Chuck listen to particular horn players to get ideas on how to phrase? Nas also played Trumpet!

    2) Chuck D has also been working with Archie Schepp. How did that come together? Has Chuck checked Schepp's poetry? What is the connection?

  • A couple of those questions have been asked and they will be in the book we are working on .

Archie Shepp's poetry is a good question .

    Peace... John

  • I really like your un-staged approach to the interview. The lack of structure made Chuck D. relax and just talk. Thanks for letting us just sit in on the conversation.

  • Thanks..

You need the right person for this and Chuck is good at it.... its a risky style talking without notes so I'm glad to see that its appreciated .

  • Great quote from Chuck:

"We've turned into a sight society without the sound

and the sounds have turned into bytes. That hurts."
