Also - I'm a huge proponent for what you've said about leaving the secrets as secrets. Sure, if you're interested in learning, learn! But don't go and take the magic out of magic for the other thousands of people who enjoy the illusion and mystery without needing to know how it's done.
Learn to reproduce, not to reveal. And once you can reproduce, reinvent, recreate, and re-mystify those who love magic!
